About Le Salon (Le Salon des Artistes Français): This is the international art exhibition, commonly known as Le Salon,
with the world's oldest history and tradition of about 350 years and is
annually organized by Société des Artistes Français
in Grand Palais. In 1667, according to the wishes of Louis XIV, the Royal
Academy organized an exhibition of its members' works at the Louvre.
In 1881 the société adopted its current name, 'Société
des Artistes Français' and the state entrusted it with the privilege
of organizing an annual exhibition of the fine arts and made the société
a wholly autonomous organization.
Many of the established artists who had influenced the history of art in
the few last centuries, such as Renoir, Delacroix, Manet, Rodin, Millet,
Monet, Courbet and others were members of this Société.
